Vandaag bijzonder goedgemutst op het werk aangekomen (benieuwd hoe lang het nog gaat duren). Reden daarvoor was een oude mixtape die ik nog eens opgeduikeld had omdat m'n Ipod nog blanco was na de herinstallatie van ITunes.
Er stond niks geschreven op het doosje noch op de cassette zelf en dus was de verrassing deel van het plezier. Ik kreeg op de rit naar het werk onder meer Sloan met Underwhelmed (fijne tekst toch wel), Ani DiFranco met 32 Flavours, Michael Penn met No myth, Brad met 20th Century en Wendy & Lisa met Are you my baby? te horen. Luidkeels meezingend ging de autorit plots wel heel snel voorbij, alhoewel, aan het aantal auto's dat me voorbijstak nog niet snel genoeg.
Voor één keer was ik daardoor niet in mijn mannelijke trots gekrent en lichtte ik de voet nog wat meer van het gaspedaal waardoor ik er nog net de laatste noten van Heaven 90210 van Urge Overkill kon uitpersen.
De tape moet dus ergens van midden jaren '90 dateren en ik vermoed ook ergens in een zonnige periode opgenomen. Ben benieuwd naar het vervolg want ik heb zoveel tapes gemaakt destijds dat ik absoluut geen idee meer heb wat ik toen allemaal heb opgenomen.
De weersvoorspellingen zien er alvast veelbelovend uit. De line-up op zaterdag ook. - Arsenal: de spieren lekker losgooien op melancholieke, gitareske dance - Kaiser Chiefs: lekkere partyband - Franz Ferdinand: één van de beste nieuwkomers van dit decennium - dEUS: Belgium's finest - Sigur Rós: magistrale pracht - Calexico: in combinatie met de zuiderse temperaturen waren we ons op de grens tussen Mexico en de VS (normaal gezien een plaats waar je niet wil zijn, maar kom) Nu nog zonnebrandolie inslaan, lekker fris zomerfruit inpakken en een pintje godverdoeme!
Sí, sí, la armada española se ha manifestada con mucho brillo al mundo. Una defensa robusta -pero con capacidades offensivas (han visto la preparación del último gol de Puyol o el tiro de Senna al principio?)-; un centro campo lleno de talentos (también en el banquillo); y delanteros peligrosos. Pero más importante, han actuado como un equipo hermético. Quizás este año...?
Malheureusement, pas des choses qu'on a vu chez les Blues. Henry était presque invisible, Zidane devient vraiment trop lent et son successeur Ribéry a joué plein de courage mais sans consistance. Selon le coach Domenech, l'état du terrain était le coupable. Je n’en doute pas...
Ook Ronaldo lijkt stilaan een anachronisme op het voetbalterrein. Slofte gewoon wat rond. Gelukkig waren de 10 anderen wel op niveau. Eens kijken of hij er de volgende keer nog bijloopt. In de groepsfase kan Brazilië het zich nog permiteren om met 10 te spelen, maar later op het tournooi zal er geknokt moeten worden. Misschien kan hij eens een voorbeeld nemen aan Toni Luca, die wroette zich te pletter. Italië en Tsjechië zouden geen probleem mogen hebben om zich te plaatsen. Vooral deze laatsten waren bijzonder goed op dreef en Arsène bewees nog maar eens zijn grote voetbalkennis, want de nieuwe Gunner Rosiczky schoot met scherp. Alleen spijtig voor hen dat Koller uitviel.
En uiteraard stemmen we af op de NOS voor de verslaggeving. De Belgen bakken ook hier weinig van. Nee, geef mij dan maar de lyrische Mart Smeets en de gortdroge Youri Mulder die er altijd maar wat bijstaat alsof hij er dik de pest in heeft. Of de gezellige babbel aan tafel bij Jack en zijn gasten. Hup, Holland, hup.

The Wolrd Cup in Germany kicked off last friday and what an opener it was. No less than six goals and an entertaining match to watch for the neutral (well, erm, I'm not that fond of German football) spectator. I hate to say it, but Germany will be a force te reckon with, yet again. In the same group as Germany, Poland was very succesful in their imitation of the Belgian National Football team: incohesive, bad passing and uninspirational.
England didn't quite deliver on Saturday either. Luckily they managed to grab 3 points. I was a little bit afraid something like this was going to happen to them since they had good results in their preparation matches. Hopefully they'll get their focus back now, because I have high hopes for them. And of course all credits to Trinidad and Tobago for withstanding the Swedes. Apparently the Swedes see themselves as a contender for the World Cup. Not through my glasses, they don't.
Group C is boasting with talent and it's a shame 2 of them will have to leave so early. I was particularly impressed with Argentina: keeping cool, well organised and very efficient in their attacks. They've got their Crespo/Klose/Inzaghi-type striker: always there in the right place; a man with a golden pass and vista (Riquelme) and lots of other gifted players. Should go a long way. I do however prefer strikers like Henry/Drobga/Raul who just have that little bit more. Drogba was outstanding. I also have lots of sympathy for Marco Van Basten. Another great striker in his days and it would seem a calm, confident and proud coach. But I'm sure he's able to hammer his point home when he has to. I'm still a little bit in doubt over Holland's defense and their ability to stick together as a team, but we'll see how things progress.
The Mexicans didn't have too much touble with Iran in the second half and Portugal looked fit to demolish Angola the fist ten minutes of the match but then they forgot there were eleven of them and they just kinda did their own thing seperately. They'll go through to the next round, but they should count themselves lucky they're not playing in group C...
