So it’s with a lump in our throats that we have to announce the impending dissolution of Arab Strap. After a career spanning ten years, Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton have decided to wind up a musical partnership that has rightly earned its place in musical folklore. It’s rare nowadays for a band to stake any sort of legitimate claim on originality; with Arab Strap, it’s a claim to which they can feel richly entitled; over the last decade they have pursued a musical vision so singular in its tone and inventive in its execution that they found themselves in a genre almost entirely of their own.

And now for something completely different

U weet ondertussen dat we af en toe eens de politieke kant durven uitgaan. Daarom deze oproep:

Dear all!

You are receiving this email because you are one of the more than 950 000 European citizens who have signed on www.oneseat.eu. The response has been fantastic all over Europe and the issue has been widely covered in the press and on blogs. Citizens from all 25 EU countries have signed. I have received thousands of encouraging emails. Thank you all for that! It shows that the issue of the European Parliament's seat is truly something that many Europeans care about.

We are now very close to reaching the goal of one million signatures but there is still some more work to do. Therefore I kindly ask you all to send www.oneseat.eu to all your friends, family and colleagues, asking them to sign.
If all of you manage to get one extra signature our goal will easily be reached and we can take the issue to Commissioner Wallström as soon as the Commission resumes after the summer break.

MySpace joins the attack

Amper een paar dagen nadat Universal Music bekend maakte gratis muziek te gaan leveren, komt ook MySpace met groot nieuws.

Vanaf december zouden ook zij muziek gaan aanbieden. Tegen betaling dan wel... De artiesten mogen zelf hun prijs bepalen (MySpace zal enkel een soort commissieloon aanrekenen).

Gezien het succes van MySpace zou dit ook wel eens een kaper op de kust kunnen worden...
